President's Message

Summer 2011

Finally the temperatures are warming and the raindrops are fewer. Even though our golf season is off to a slower start than is normally expected, we have been fortunate to miss the storm damages that many of our neighbours have suffered.

Thank you to all of our members and their guests for your overwhelming support of our "Maritime Theme Night" and our Mother's Day brunch. Both of these events were completely sold out. I acknowledge the imaginative decorating for the Maritime Night coordinated by Wendy Chaulk, Sheri Claringbold, Glenda Barber, Pat Peace, Bob Smith and Jeanine Corneil. What a great addition to this event. Special thanks goes to Gary Chaulk who "Screeched-In" a great number of our guests. Our next theme night is a "Louisiana BBQ" on Friday, July 29 th. Please mark your calendars and check out the menu, which is attached to this newsletter. Don't forget that Murphy's Den offers a separate menu, which changes every two weeks. Please check our website for menus. Food from the Grille menu can also be served and eaten in the den.

I am pleased to advise that our kitchen equipment has been replaced with modern ovens and stove that have improved efficiencies and food preparation. Our Chef Scott Hudson and his staff are thrilled with these changes and our members and guests will benefit from these improvements. Thank you so much to our Men's Committee who have contributed $5000 toward the cost of the much needed kitchen equipment. We have also replaced and updated the 26-year-old draught fridge that expired. Our thanks to the Ladies Section who have donated $500 towards the cost of the new draught fridge.

Many thanks to our many member volunteers. To the ladies who tend to our flowerbeds, Fred Young and Ron Irwin who are refinishing and repainting our deck railings and to Steve Foster who has replaced some damaged tiles in the entrance foyer.

To lighten our load and our expenses, if your not currently receiving Club notices by email, please supply your email address to lindsaygolf@bellnet.ca .

The condition of our course continues to improve, as staff is able to catch up with their grass cutting schedules and Eric deals with some irrigation and drainage issues. Our Pro Shop staff is doing a great job coordinating our outside tournament events, helping our members sections with their scheduled activities and promoting our course to fill our first tee with guests and visitors. Golf season is finally in full swing.

See you on the course!

Barb Kelly
President

GEO-THERMAL HEATING/COOLING SYSTEM

Members may be curious as to how the geo-thermal HVAC system installed in the fall of 2009 is operating. For those members who are new to the Club, our heating and cooling system for the main Clubhouse, is provided by a geo-thermal system that utilizes the water in the west pond between the 8th green and the 9th tee where the fountain is located.

The system did require some air distribution adjustments through the winter of 2010. Since early May 2010 the system has been operating well. Actual expenses on natural gas for 2011 are reduced to May 31, 2011 by $6328 or 57.7%. Natural gas is still used to operate our kitchen equipment and to power a small hot water boiler in the original farmhouse. To date, electricity costs have also been reduced by 15% through managing usage more effectively.

UNLICENSED ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES

The Lindsay Golf & Country Club is licensed by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of the Province of Ontario to serve alcoholic beverages to its Members, guests and public patrons. The serving of alcoholic beverages enhances our opportunities to attract tournament play, weddings, special occasion celebrations and both casual and more formal diners. The loss of any of these events would severely impair an important part of our revenue stream and would jeopardize the continued operation of our Club as we have come to enjoy and appreciate it. Regrettably, some of our public patrons and a small number of our Members continue to bring personal unlicensed alcoholic beverages to our Club.

The Board of Directors, at its meeting on June 20, 2011 has approved a policy to prohibit unlicensed alcoholic beverages from being consumed on all Club property. This new policy will apply to both green fee players and Club members. Our staff will now report the consumption of unlicensed alcohol to a Manager on duty.

Green fee players and members who offend the policy will have the option to return the beverages to their vehicles or to surrender same and pick them up in the Pro Shop at the conclusion of their game. Uncooperative green fee players will be requested to leave Club property, accompanied by the police if necessary. Members who offend the policy will face progressive discipline, up to and including suspension and/or revocation of membership.

It is very unfortunate that the Board feels the necessity to take this type of formal action. However, the immediate and long-term interests of our Club need to be protected. Copies of the policy are available by e-mail or by personal request at the office.

GOLF COURSE MARSHALLS NEEDED

Members who are interested in serving as golf course marshalls should contact the office at 705-328-2258 ext 21 or by email at lindsaygolfbellnet.ca. While the details of the marshalls program have not yet been finalized, the program is expected to operate 4 days per week, including weekends.
